Ananta points out that stability cannot be found in the ever-changing egoic person, but only in the unchanging witnessing presence which remains untouched by all appearances.

Nothing can matter because nothing can touch you; all that appears is disappearing in your own space.
The person is inherently unstable because it is just a set of ideas that keep changing.
The one that is stable must be the witnessing of all of this change.

Does it matter to Atma? Nothing matters. Nothing matters. Nothing can matter because nothing can touch you. All that is appearing is disappearing, and disappearing in your own space.

Seeker

Then what do you do with this space?

Ananta

Who is to do? Who is to do? Now you're getting... who is to do with this one? You say already nothing matters. I see that I'm untouched, with pure witnessing of all of this which is appearing and disappearing. Now whose question is it: 'What am I going to do?'

Seeker

It says nothing has mattered so far, that is completely clear. Okay, how do I know nothing will not matter? What is worthwhile to achieve with the form before it drops?

Ananta

What is the most worthwhile thing you can achieve with the form? Suppose for a minute that you are the doer of action. Then even if you are the doer of all your action, then what is the most worthwhile thing you can achieve? Not disturbing yourself in any way, but going about things in a peaceful and loving manner. And how can that happen? If you are identified as a person, then that will not happen because the person inherently is unstable. It's just a set of ideas, and ideas keep changing. There's no stability there.

So the person is expecting, the ego is expecting stability to come from the person, the ego itself, you see? But it is inherently unstable because it's constantly changing. I give you a new idea today about yourself; the person that was here ten minutes ago is now this new person because it has a new idea about itself. And then you are expecting a sense of stability from this which is constantly changing. You go to a movie, you see another flash, 'Okay, this is how I should spend my life,' you know? Then a new idea about the person. So how can you find stability in this which is constantly changing? The one that is stable must be the witnessing of all of this change. So, are you that which is unchanging, or are you the content which is constantly changing?
