The Reality of God is Forgotten in Egotism
Saar (Essence)
Ananta explains that Maya functions by making us forget God's presence and will, causing us to mistakenly prioritize the ego's sense of doership and personal justice over divine servitude.
The 'me' in the forefront is the forgetting of God.
Maya acts through life events and the internal lawyer that judges them as fair or unfair.
When we forget God, we take justice into our own hands and ignore His will.

The reality of God, when we are caught up in egotism, in avidya, then that is forgotten, isn't it? I forget God. I feel I have to deal with this myself, you see. The 'me' is in the forefront, and that is the forgetting of God. So justice is no longer left to God; justice is taken into our own hands. Servitude is forgotten and my will seems to be the most important at that time. God's will is forgotten.
So that is because what happened? We get to these states—especially those in Satsang—because of following what I'm saying. Why? So what I'm saying is that Maya's job is to make us forget about God; that God is here, He's taking care of everything. The 'me' is non-existent; it is avidya. We forget this and we take the 'me' to be the only reality when Maya starts to act up. You see, so Maya acts up in the form of events in our life and with Maya's lawyer in our head which says, 'This is what is going on. This is unfair,' or 'This is really good.'
