Saar (Essence)

Ananta explains that while our true nature is the unconditioned witness, habitual identification with the ego persists like an addiction. He emphasizes that we are already free in the 'now' if we stop checking our spiritual progress.

In this moment, you are already empty of all conditioning; the 'de-addiction' has already happened.
The problem is not that thoughts come, but that they seem to mean something about you.
Having a guru is like getting on a train; there is nothing left for you to do.

The human condition is in turmoil. Firstly, the play of the spiritual seeker is very much like this: where when we come to that time, we come to the presence of a great scripture like Ashtavakra Gita, and it seems so obvious. He said that because of the fire element, it's just coming and going, which implies that also is that I didn't mean I am not coming and going. But when it comes, it can seem like it gets me. And it comes, it really seems like it gets me. And then when I look at something like this, it seems so obvious again that none of this really gets me. It really gets this play, this aspect of me.

Ananta

So that is why if it was snap-snap, if it was just if all that is needed was read a scripture once, then we would not need Satsang every day. Why? Because the power of conditioning, the power of 'I' can seem like it has its own momentum; it has been built up. One example I share is that suppose you looked at a photo of Papaji and you always thought that that is Nisargadatta Maharaj. You always thought that is Nisargadatta Maharaj and somebody becomes saying, 'No, no, no, this is Papaji.' 'No, it's not.' And then you have that was a funny interaction for a bit, and then you recognize, 'Yes, it is Papaji.' But next time when you see it again, the concept will come that this is Nisargadatta because for a long time you picked up the condition that it is somebody else, it is something else.

Ananta

In the same way, because in this play we picked up seemingly for a long time that we are something that is governed by the coming and going of the phenomenal realm, before it can stay, it takes time. Okay? But practice is every time. Every time we have to do the work of picking up the false identity of old time, although it can seem very natural. Just like for a smoker, it can seem very natural to pick up a cigarette and light it; it can seem actually relaxing, that is more effortless that way. So I'm excited about you being pointed to that because it has become a habit for us to pick up the identity. If we can think like just any report that it just happens when this comes, and to them my face okay just happens, fine. But look now: what is it that you are during the front, even during some? Just once if you can come to this recognition, this stays.

Ananta

You see, when I read the words like this, it's so clear. And what this and that much is good for Satsang for one person at one moment, because that one little bit of insight, that one moment is cleaning up the false ideas. What are we into play? What are we moving towards? Moving towards that place where when these things come, events happen, the interpretation of those come, then we are just able to let them come and go. Okay? You're just able to let them come and go, if not just laugh at them or something like that.

Ananta

So how does it come to that point where somebody moves over their addiction? When the thought comes and says, 'Would you like a cigarette?' 'No, why would I want to spoil my lungs? Why would I want to do this?' The same way as the mind comes with this offer in the game of identity, so compelling because of the habit, because it has been built up over I don't know how many million lifetimes. You don't even have to get into this. Don't bother how long it should be. All success with habit success, you can be grateful that at least now we have come to this place where looking at the habit, we have some distance on it. And I know that so many times like it does get picked up, it can seem more intense because our sensitivity is increasing.

Or somebody thought again, 'I don't mind using this.' Do not smoke for a long time, but you need to have a curve this for the moment. I have a bag, I'm strong, so many cigarettes would seem very painful. And so because our sensitivity is increasing, and when we pick up identification again and again, it can seem more painful. It seems like it would stumble. And then what happens is in the design of the play itself, to make sure that you don't pick up any complacency or arrogance, you can think like, 'My whole life is turning upside down.' Events become something to be, comes from the interpretation of the events in tickets from those. Many times we expect coming to the Satsang, expecting, 'Ah, life starts improving for me.' We can become, and he has just squeezed everything that we believed about ourselves is getting squeezed out of us.

Ananta

But you continue with this rehab and we continue with this advance. We will come to a point, whether we believe it right now or no, we'll come to a point of pure gratitude for all of these events in the mess that squeeze us the most. See, as any guide, the reader should already come to Satsang. You see, actually not even being, even within a moment, can see the greater aspect of me is that which is the witness of this. And I am of also persons. Some can see this recently, and yet for many of us, as we get back into way to realize, it can seem like, 'Oh, we think it gets us.' So the problem is not so much that it comes and goes. The problem is not so much that it comes, it's the problem that when it comes, it seems to have a hold over us. It seems to mean something for us. It seems to affect us or hurt us in some way.

Ananta

So as again and again we are clarifying every day: What is this I? Who am I? You see that the one that is affected really does not exist. Just identification, the set of emotions, a set of judgments or set of interpretations which are breaking out the thing might be. This is the whole point to Ashtavakra Gita also. They just said one word: infinite decision. Although the recognition is instantaneous, it is an endemic conditioning; it is getting replaced. This is that fixing things that come up about this condition. One is that if it has been built up over long periods of time, it can seem like it takes a long time to build. That's why we need to repeat these things. We make you look again and again. That's what we are.

Ananta

Second thing is that the point like this does not mean that we make a plan about how to get rid of this system. It will mean that in the right now, what are you? Empty yourself of cookies. It's all about the right now because actually right now you are empty of all conditioning. Right now you're empty of 'I'. This will also sound, want to read what I'm saying, but it's not. I'll elaborate on that. Empty of all conditioning right now. We instantly pick up a condition about that. It can seem like we are not just picking up that condition, but it can seem like, 'I'm picking up my entire basket of conditioning.' The play's like this. Mind game is like this. It is not that when you pick up this condition right now, 'I want a chocolate cake,' it is not just 'I want a chocolate cake' condition which gets picked up. It's not that I am just I am and my only condition is that I want chocolate cake. I am that which wants chocolate cake, this consciousness. It's not that. It is when I pick up the idea that I want chocolate cake, the whole idea of this individual 'I' is picked up. The individual 'I' already has the sense of separation, it already has a sense of all the previous desires, all the previous events, all the opposites of forgiveness, interrogating tiny instructions. All of that is part of the condition of this 'I'.

Ananta

So there is good news and there is bad news. The good news is much greater than the bad news. The good news is that in this moment, we are for a moment empty of all conditioning. That's the best news actually. And this is true. It is true. If you start to think about this, the main entity, if we start to think about it, in spite of whatever the sensation might be, we remain empty of conditioning. Or it can seem like one condition, this is this one, say like this, or why is this one? Maybe it's my karma, he or she listened to part of the police have done some condition like that. And whole if there's identity, the whole idea I have about themselves seems to connect. So that is the play of the good news and the bad news. But why there is the best news? That in this moment again: empty, finished. It's like the big de-addiction had already happened. But it's also a temptation, keep coming back to eating this idea that consciousness itself has that, that it picked up. It could have some meaning for me. This is relevant, it is true for me.

Ananta

Oh, apply these terms like I shared a lot in this book. That means a person look at them like forgiveness. It can seem like a very normal thing. Everybody says forgive, forgive. But actually there is something very deep in this because as we discover what we are, you find this one is Being which actually cannot have a grievance. It sees everything happening within itself. All is a movement of the sunlight. All your recognition be that, not even be fire, and that which is a witness even of Being, keep the unconcerned, untouched by any of this. How can I have a grievance against my own self? It is my own game. Maya has some relationship. So forgiveness is this kind of three passage I read somewhere. A beautiful, peaceful definition of forgiveness is to give up all conditions of grievances about that one key passage. Come on, be cool. They're not about me. No grievance is truly about you.

Ananta

So as I wanted to be able to play, actually he was talking about some bulimia, waiting for something to come up. He said, 'Why bother with all this? I have given you the self-inquiry which takes care of everything that you have to experience then in their spiritual form.' So from the lineage often it will happen. Forgiveness has to come, it will come. Left has to go, it will go. If hunger has to, greed has to, the usage of these already just by self-inquiry, just by recognition of why to here only. We do it only where the consciousness is designed to make itself feel like it is suffering through this identification with forms.

Ananta

Now what can happen is as we feel that we are empty now, so mind has a trump card. Mind says, 'Okay, yes, you're empty now. You're with Ananta, you really must order to produce read individual until now, fine. But what about yesterday? You got so angry at your mother-in-law or someone.' So in that moment, what happened to that? Didn't you take the poor condition which is? But what happened yesterday, as if the individual 'I' yesterday continues here too. So that's how I do. So what happens is that if I... it is okay, fine. At least in Satsang, finding vital for the two moments, can we remain empty even of the conditions about what happened yesterday? How is it? How is it going to happen afterwards?

Ananta

Many times it can happen that we are in Satsang but you're still thinking about the past and we're still hoping that something will improve about the future. That's all that I am saying is: what about now? What about this here? And so very often that my arch-nemesis is the checker guy. The checker guy says, 'Are you more efficient? You out of this?' Checker levels. We make any report card with you all the time. 'You keep in class today so many enlightenments.' Enlightenment one, which is so many stars. Five-star enlightenment today. Freedom, a free blackboard because he got angry. This checker guy, this one is making the report card simply this one. Because I say to this one, 'Enter the self-inquiry or just look at what is now.' 'Oh, right now I'm ninety percent looking at what is now and ten percent looking at what is past.' Maybe any instruction that you give it, it'll make it into a checking, it'll make it into a benchmark. And this is really the bane of the spiritual seeker.

Ananta

The spiritual seeker seems like by doing X, Y, Z, coming to a particular level, I will come here. This feels like we did in high school, the way we reach college. It seems like a little bit exactly which is... that's okay. Yesterday I knew half of what Papaji was saying, today I start to be able to undo it. Is it okay? I will be progress. My key is inside here at the usual 4:15. Leave it inside. These things can become a part of your spiritual uses. We never give that you're complete right here, right now. So take it as whatever it is, say meaningless about the reality which you're tasting about yourself now. And it has just a few tricks up with you. The most important one is this: 'Is this sign now which is stay in order something?' or 'It's good, I hope this doesn't go after the Satsang again.' We're moving beyond this.

Ananta

And you hear the limited identity about ourselves and you want to cater to that one. We forget about that. Come, better we back into the one that needs spiritual God. Where's the one that wants to be a certain way? Leave that one to me. What do you want to do is follow what I am saying is: this moment, if you are in Satsang, if you are open to the words, this inquiry, all surrender is happening. The thing you have to do in Satsang is nothing to do now. Say Satsang editing my hypothesis that the simplest way to live then at the bottom. But first, like what about this? For this, take it up with my Father. His problem is your mind will come and be sharing some of the tricks so that we can see them, we notice them, and then we don't fall for anybody really.

Ananta

The mind will come and will say, 'Okay, Ananta was talking about spirituality, he was not talking about the zero. He can't take care of my life in that way. He can't pay for the goods. The Guru don't take care of taking my children from here to there or something like that.' Not that there is no real world and person world. Another of the three false tricks of the mind. It says, 'See, Satsang is different, but when I go to the real world, like something changes.' Nothing changes in the reality. The sequence is which is that a little bit of the energetic support which you get by being in the presence of Satsang can seem to not be there in this sense. Then the reality of you and me won't change.

Ananta

So this word is assigned in the calendar, letting it be applicable with a Satguru as real wisdom, connecting to the Guru. That's the first part of having a Guru. First part of having a Guru is that everything is this one. If you have a Guru and we continue to make things awkward, then it's like... like suppose the best car for yourself or you've inherited the best car, it was given to you, and still you're huffing and puffing, you're just walking. But to hold is the battery example. One is to battery example in bed, to get into the train and to keep running thinking that I will get to my destination faster. It's wholly having a Guru is to get on the train, nothing for you to do. And what do I mean by this? Especially don't check on your spiritual progress whatever.
