All Confusion at Its Root Is About Identity - 4th October 2017
Saar (Essence)
Ananta guides seekers to shift from objective identification to the unchanging Self, which remains untouched by the waking, dreaming, or deep sleep states. He emphasizes that suffering arises only from the false pretense of being a limited person.
The self is not a thing at all... it is the substratum of all states.
Nothing real can be threatened, nothing unreal ever existed. Herein lies the peace of God.
Let the waking state take care of itself. You are that which is beyond life and death.

Namaste everyone. A very warm welcome to satsang today. So, Guru Sri Moojiji, you see, then what would you like to talk about today? Suppose there was no concern about relationships, all relatedness; there was no concern at all about money nor security. Oh, there was no concern about health of the body, the state of the body. And suppose there was no concern even about spirituality. There is no reason to be concerned, actually, about any of these. These four primary problems or concerns that we seem to become sources of suffering are our ideas or expectations around these. The funniest is the last one: the suffering seeker who knew that to escape only suffering, we came into this spirituality. And then, who knew that for suffering, 'I'm not getting it. When is the awakening going to happen for me?' This kind of suffering. And what it means: guilt, the idea that 'I'm missing the point' or something like this. The point of satsang is let's exchange only suffering, a new variety. So let's change it from worldly arrogance, worldly specialness, to spiritual arrogance or spiritual specialness. That cannot be the purpose; that cannot be the purpose of satsang.
This is that for too long we've looked this way, this way, right here. We looked this way, but you know, then we looked at the objective, then the world of objects for too long. And then when we asked what we can do, we then look at what you are. Who am I? We go looking in that way also with the expectation of finding some object. 'I found the Self'—as if you'll find it as an object. What you're finding is your own Self, which is prior to objects. Oh, this is a huge paradigm shift for the mind. The mind cannot actually even fathom this. It is too much of a leap. Everybody says, 'Move the tower, jump over the moon.' Take the leap. What is the leap? Just from this very ingrained objective idea, very ingrained idea that 'I am what I see, I am this body, I am what the mind is telling me,' seeing that I am not an object, I am not a thing at all. The Self is not a thing. I have not again... I used to say often that more than a noun, it's a verb. Actually, even that is not true. Not even a verb. Yeah, it's a good checkup now.
All these concerns that we talked about: if you were not an object, which one would apply? The relationships of the space in this room—what can we say about the relationship to space? You need to invent the thing, you need to invent something that you are before you can have a relationship. Who has that money in the bank account which you say is yours? Where is that entity who's the owner of that? There is a name there; it seems to conform with the name that has been given to this body. But even if you were to... if this body was able to answer, 'I'm concerned about the money in the bank account, I can't even touch it.' Who is that one that owns this body, that owns that money, who owns that relationship, who owns the spiritual journey, who has embarked on this endeavor? There is nobody. And you're looking to find that there is nobody. That which is looking is not concerned by any of this.
We spoke to the looking and said, 'We will find freedom after seven lifetimes if you are really good.' You want freedom? Where is the bondage? This is that divine delusion. I am then that which is beyond. So, beyond all of this, it has been able to invent this concept of itself, and now it seems like it's stuck in this endless maze. 'How do I get out of this?' This is the story of the spiritual seeker, from teaching to teaching, master to master. In conclusion, what all masters are saying is that the truth just is, unchanging. How many can pick that up as a clue? What is it that is unchanging? That is unchanging. Most of humanity cannot spend two minutes on this question. And what is the process? The mind is so strong, it's so caught up in the realm of change, the realm of holding on to that which changes. For those two minutes, we cannot contemplate this question: what remains unchanged? You don't have to throw anything away. You won't be there. Don't fight with the changing realm; let it be there. But beyond that, is there something? Is there something about you which is beyond change?
I can go through you like this step-by-step. The body—what about the body? Let's have some feedback. Changing or unchanging?

Changing.
So what else is there? Body changing. Then knowledge, aliveness. Aliveness—changing or unchanging? We'll come to that. Let's see then. What else is there before we come to aliveness? Body, sensations, feelings, emotions—all clearly changing. So what is there beyond that? You said aliveness. Like, if you stop being, you might be... this is what you mean is what we call beingness. This is a beautiful point to go to. As long as we're looking in this waking state, this beingness is the one master, is the deity. Guru Ji says the deity of the waking state is the God of the waking state. But when everything goes, everything goes. That which we call sleep, even this presence, even this beingness, even this sense of existence is not there. And yet, you are. Thank you. Even aliveness... no, we can only rely on our experience. We cannot conceptualize it at all.
So, a good way to check is: what wakes up in the morning? What woke up today? We say, 'I woke up.' What was that sense that I existed, the sense that I am, the sense that I have a life? That which you were in the sleep state was beyond life and death, unborn. And the presence or absence of even the waking state or the dream state has not touched that one. The concept of two does not exist there; the concept of one also does not exist there. It is not true this, because it is the simplest recognition. Even a child recognizes it. And the simpler it gets, the more complicated it is for the mind. Everybody knows, 'I woke up just five minutes ago.' What came? The sense that I exist. Now, this 'I' is able to say, 'My property.' This 'I' is able to say, 'Guru Ji is able to say that.' Don't touch this ocean, don't even touch this sense of existence. The one that woke up, let the waking state take care of that one. We cannot have an 'I' there. The one that woke up, let the waking state take care of itself.
Can you take any object from here? So if I decide, 'Okay, I am going to take the coconut into my dreamless sleep,' can I do it? I say, 'I want to take this hand into my dreamless sleep.' With just the hand, surely? Can we take it there? In dreamless sleep, just have that one thumb? We leave it all behind. See, I still haven't fully... still the way was a coarse example. Way beautiful that you could be on your wedding night, but when sleep comes, even that beloved is left. No object. But you see, it is not a third-party experience. Not a two, another one. You sleep for you to be. And yet, this 'you' is beyond all attributes and qualities because all qualities were left behind. Nothing is there in that one. This 'you' has gotten no attention, has gotten no focus for us, has been given no value. The waking state comes; it is the state of light and sound and excitement, all kinds of things. So, the substratum of all states... so this satsang, the Self-recognition, is just about this looking for the 'I'. Who am I? Am I some object of the waking stream, or do I remain untouched by which appearances might appear?
When I was in the right from the beginning, worried for a second, almost awaiting for a second four years ago, he's been dead. He said anytime I ask Ananta something here and nobody's... who are you? Anything but... am I supposed to do? You see, like I had with the police, it's not that I have to...
That's true, because the source of all confusion at the root is the confusion of identity. It might seem like whatever else it is, it might seem like it is a question of desire or confusion, but at the root of that confusion is a confusion about the 'I'. Now, if you come to satsang, then you will not escape these questions. If you're not in satsang, I can go to work and on schedule. But being here means that I am open to this question. It is this kind of certainty: I'm open to this. I might not be very inclined to inquire, but I am open to only the content as it is day after day. All of this psychological suffering, all of these problems—this recognition is to be found. But what can happen sometimes is that the mind can come in very quickly after the moment of recognition and try to co-opt the recognition for the personality. That is what is called spiritual ego. It might take whatever color or flavor it might dress itself in. That is what the idea that the person has come to a spiritual insight is.
But as we are coming to this, this recognition is what we call the claimant. The claimant is the ego in its worst form. The claimant is the most difficult one to deal with because it is the most subtle. If there is a quality about a spiritual seeker which is useful, it is openness. 'I'm open, I don't know.' But the claimant after recognition is the most subtle. 'No, I'll say you don't know. I'm done with this kind of thing. Yes, I'm already... why can't you understand that I'm spiritually grown?' The claimant, you can follow the wanting to proclaim, wanting to get some attention, wanting to get some specialness as a result of... almost like a child who's done very well in the exam for the first time, they want to go all over the marketplace. You see? When the master says, 'Keep quiet, sit down,' this claimant will give you much more to do. You see, nobody is innocent but stubborn. I had so much to obey because of this. Cannot pick up a new position. I was saying after satsang yesterday, when I'm really enjoying these satsangs which are so much inviting you to give up all position and your dignity. So, what is called ego is position. Ultimate position is the 'I' position. The position, the position has gone. The position next person—all this, forget about it. Forget about it.
Then you see that satsang is not a classroom. Well, then we might feel like a classroom where there's a teacher who keeps talking and 'What am I learning?' You see that actually this is absolute unlearning. And so I said yesterday, someone was saying, 'But I don't know anything.' So I said that 'I don't know anything'—how can you be lonely? How could that be a burden? There must be an idea that 'I don't know anything, but I must know something.' If that is not there, then what can bother us? The true 'I don't know.' So 'I don't know' is very good. Now, who does this 'I don't know' belong to? If that 'I don't know' belongs to somebody with name and form, then it can be a painful agony that 'I don't know.' If it's just part of the natural functioning of this, there's no claimant even of the 'I don't know,' then we are not troubled. Even if the worst type of feelings are going on, even with the worst type of thoughts going on, what you are remains untouched by the flow of any object, thought, or feeling. It could be a car, it could be some state of the body. Ultimately, it all must boil down to you.
All the clues that we give in satsang are available. What is making this difficult? Openness. If the truth is that which is unchanging, if you use your mind and say, 'Oh, I know, the Self is that,' that doesn't help. That is where knowledge gets in the way. If you're not open, then when the pointer is being given, then you're already preempting it with some learned concept or based on some past insight, and that doesn't help. The clue is that: find out that which is the non-phenomenal witness of everything that is phenomenal. Then you apply a knowledge to phenomena. You just have to... open that way. Like the BBC expert who was presenting his views on some economy and then his baby walks into the interview. And when his wife comes, I think it is touched. What this insightful question usually is, is that with that this time to act, who was that? Including myself, we don't walk in which we can ask this question knowing that if I was to ask you, 'Why was that not working out?' So something has not worked out so well for the years, then why not try something? So this is that two layers worked out in a certain way, this way than the person's needs. You can see, he says if you feel it, give it the power. That power can do this claimant, the hash of to start enjoyment, not having to hold on. I was saying yesterday, so it can feel a bit wobbly initially, not having your project.
We can ask this question knowing that if I was to ask you, 'Why has that been working out?' something has not worked out so well for the person. Then why not try something else? This is that. Two layers worked out in a certain way. This way, the person whose needs you can see, he says if you feel it, give it the power. That power can do this game. You have to start enjoying not having to hold on. I was saying yesterday, so it can feel a bit wobbly initially, not having your projection on the future or this control. But just a prediction of the future—the future is its own. All that you try to control has just been an idea we had about what it should be. But I don't feel anybody there. If a rule said that one day we're going to come to such, it had its own plan. For that zone plan, we can keep out of its projection about the future. Now, we are more wobbly with that, except that it is this projection which is the cause of suffering. If you had known why, because you realize that all your suffering... we ran out of time, you see the fallacy of the move. When we see that actually the water had the moves itself, it was a fallacy. It's so auspicious. It's not that actually you had some moves; we're just letting go of the pretense. That is the beauty of satsang. That the ego that we're letting go of was nothing. You give it your attention that we might just need you to pretend. Security is the false idea that it is an object living inside this body somewhere, or living had some control over this, and you deciding whether to do this to create this next. This is what you must claim, and you were resisting them. We were affecting the movie when it does not conform to that. Suffice, and even the position of a surrender was hard to subscribe to. Such it would come when everything would just now suddenly... you know, a lot of contraction is a big factor when especially something is not right. So much conditioning. As conditioning goes, it's like, let's just cut this short, realizing that it's stationed somewhere. So suddenly contraction happens because its habit is... we may be impatient. You've done, I think, disastrously because even if there is an idea of how to partition, that's still about. So we have to learn out of that one.
Outside answer, one time somebody on his... was attacking a master and... well, its... which mic am I using? The mic is fine. Maybe it is because the air conditioning was on and it was interfering with the audio. How's it now? Maybe I'm too far for distance. How's the audio now? And as this attack was happening, some members didn't say what it is, and this is not how you... and I saw that good feeling arose. But a dead man is being attacked. A dead man is being attacked. It just felt like there's one concept of Ananta who has been attacked and raped. Okay, he's like this, he's like that, like that. So this is the beauty of the world. Make sure that we come to this emptiness, not hold on to any position. Even that actually must idea about that, that seemed to help in this case. Of course, I feel they want a wine around children to entertain, killing liquor and responsible design discipline. I'm not hoping the calls, not picking somebody they love in the direction that they want to. You recently position equally good every part from the mind with invitation for position. And that is why not even the position of resisting the thoughts, I'm trying to stop the thoughts, not even that. Simply allowing, empty of reference and Gil's notion about Maya. That is allowing. And to put it very, very simply, will make a meeting in duality. So what I mean, even as they don't make anything into duality, I think there's anything.
So don't believe your next door. Remain open. Accept what is. All of this came in the same. Allow all invitations to make something out of nothing. Just allow them to come and yes, it still applies because even there, the thought income parts of all day. If you look at it, I will to say often that, you know what happens? It is there, it is at heart, stop bothering us. So then we start thinking of other people. So but if you look, start you look closely, this is thing: the only source of trouble is this, our thoughts about the concept of me. It's the same concept. As soon as we give birth to 'me', with the birth of 'other', this way of duality in this room, I decide you give place to a separate existence. I know it feels a bit uncomfortable for many people to not have a position. This is the operation table of the rehab, actually. Now, am I doing something? Wants to hold on to some position of themselves. I do think, 'Why are you okay?' He's... I'm doing anybody that has to be good something because emptiness seemed like the most repulsive concept to them. Lay down on this rehab table for some time. Let the operation happen. Let their mind bypass happen. The best, best, best gift you can give to yourself and the world is this. Anyhow, a mistaken notion that our part is very selfish, which is so focused on this desire. Without something, I am. Without 'I am something'. As we pick board over emotion about others, regard the concept of God. You pick called over the next time, you'll find that the world might resist for a bit, might say, 'I want to push them back. I didn't sign up for God, I wanted a husband.' Resist for a bit, but they would also realize that there is nothing better.
It's mostly form of the spirituality that is keeping it that way. You cannot conceptually bypass it. You can try every concept, but it takes it on so clearly of my cousin. And he got held up by these roots, these bandits. He got held up by outside bandits and they had come. So what this boy is keep without his own also, maybe they'll get scared. So this all has gone and they say, 'Okay, good, give us that. This is a key to the arsenal.' Please quietly kept inside. So you see, I have to make a report about whether you drop the checker damn you surrender excess. You have to sit, see all the trouble is that because your mouth surrender attacked, it adds to examination or anything that it hears, even stick you back on. Mostly when I see somebody very deep reflection of the check that the one that is kicking way, I may have you spotted it? Is it conviction? It's like so much unworthiness feeling, move, not getting it. I am. What is the role of the mind? To convince 'I am that I am'. There's nothing but the mental commentary. It's just not really. I know if it's not, it's just it's somehow there's no necessary because this one guy is like using some words to manifest to talk to some individuality using even this beautiful concept of satsang. I have to keep reminding everyone that these also, their use is to remove the ones and then to be thrown away. It is not a new religion, which is words that are being used to remove other words which have been invited as prior conditions to us. And as unchaining ourselves is that.
Nothing equals nothing. But also I see that computerized especially more and more you are attracted to this angles and it's natural. 'This is not what I signed up for. I signed up for you being this way.' So it is even in the plane of the room. Let consciousness do because it can still hot this idea that I have to them for this one right. I cannot get anything at all. Consciousness, intelligence, it knows exactly what. Sometimes this intensity of... how much or any nursing then all these very simple things which with a mind sound like so simple, you start to make so much Muslims. And I say don't bring anything with you, know that meaning liturgy like, 'Oh, that's a sense of satsang, how can that be?' Take the big master says, 'Whatever it is, I don't mind.' It's the most beautiful spiritual pointing, but this conceptually it can seem to simply the heavy duty stuff into your spiritual see. You'll see that you so to remain concept. This is only this, not exchanging. It's beautiful. I'm associated presence with any notion of itself.
What is to give like a fighting on Mahabharata? Say this wrong is negative belief is falling. All the past field is over and over. I pointed to you that effortlessly everything is functional. Body is functioning, perception is happening. You see all the senses are functioning. You don't have to decide to take any step left behind. Effortlessly you exist. Listen, this is the best news, okay? It all comes after this. If you don't exist, you cannot even say anything about me. Presence is here. You are me. And this ego that we seemingly fighting never king, never. It is just not present ever. You are ego never is person never. It's no battle, nothing. What is here like the best parts of spirituality? I hear now on that oppressive power or the ego, I think it should be done over because it never really was real. Out of that famous thing in course: nothing real can be threatened, nothing unreal ever existed. Herein lies the peace of God. So easy. Nothing in this world can can give our existence. Nothing really can be threatened. The unreal has never existed. It exists without motion an idea. Herein realized the peace of God.
So all our defenses, all our maneuvers, all our doing in not doing has been a defense of the non-existent one. The reality remains untouched. This reality is not conceptual for you anymore. It's not just a fancier idea for coming face-to-face with you because your very being, you cannot stop me. Don't even have to go looking for being. Don't have to go and find be. There already is. You cannot stop it. Don't even have to avoid it. As a self, you cannot avoid it. It is unavoidable about it in season of unavoidable. It is only pretense which can be picked up. If you're starting to see the... you starting to recognize where these words are hunting, then I can say that your head is in the tiger's mouth. There is no escape. Thank you all so much for being in satsang today. Guru Ji Mooji Ki Jai. Guru Ji Ananta Ki Jai.
Thank you. Thank you. Including that is he here? Judy Ma initiative on our behalf. You can wish so that I give everyone honor and listen. I really fun. Thank you.
